Bollywood gears up for MAMI

This year’s edition of the film festival looks to be grander than ever, with a Bollywood panel discussion in the mix

The 17th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival, MAMI, is back and grander than ever. Not only will it open with a light show on Thursday at the Gateway of India with a visual spectacle being reflected on the monument, it will also feature a signature track by AR Rahman that has been created especially for the festival. The night will be hosted by Kalki Koechlin and boast the attendance of big names like Hrithik Roshan, Kangana Ranaut, Parineeti Chopra, Radhika Apte, Vishal Bhardwaj, Rajkumar Hirani and Neeraj Ghaywan, to name a few.

Writer-duo Salim-Javed, who have penned iconic films like Deewaar, Sholay and Zanjeer, will be felicitated with the `Excellence in Cinema' award for their outstanding work.

A spokesperson for the festival said, “It was Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who took active interest in the festival and also made the venue available. He will be in attendance at the opening ceremony.”

What’s more, there will be a celebrity after-party hosted at Antilla, home to Nita and Mukesh Ambani. And that's not all. A new addition to the festival this year is a Movie Mela, wherein actors will participate in a panel discussion regarding the future of Bollywood, which will take place on October 31st at Mehboob Studios.

“The discussion between young actors and experienced moderators will bring forth interesting opinions on the future of Bollywood in the next five years. With the industry seeing so many developments each year, the discussion appears to be a promising one. I am looking forward to it,“ says Parineeti, who will be one of the panelists.

Designer Masaba Gupta, who is famous for her quirky prints, has created a special power-bank for the festival that apparently features Amitabh Bachchan in his Angry Young Man avatar.
