The Unites States on Tuesday asked its citizens in Bangladesh to remain careful about security threats, following an earlier travel alert applicable for them.
The US Embassy in Dhaka warned US citizens of possible attacks against hotels and clubs in Dhaka in late December 2015, potentially in connection with celebrations on the New Year’s Eve.
The US mentioned that Dhaka Metropolitan Police announced enhanced security measures, to prevent any untoward incident on 31 December, including a prohibition on outdoor parties after 8pm.
The police also increased checkpoints in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and the University of Dhaka, the US embassy said in its new message.
According to it, US citizens are reminded that there is an active “Travel Alert” for Bangladesh issued on 10 November and also a worldwide travel alert issued on 23 November.
The embassy reminded those US citizens considering travel to maintain vigilant situational awareness and to avoid large crowds and crowded places.
