How to get glowing skin this winter

For glowing skin, it's not only what you put on your skin it's also to what one puts inside, in terms of both food and thoughts.

So, eat healthy, think healthy and positive for clear skin. "Flaxseeds, sesame, soya, nuts, fish and other sea food, palak, saag are nourishing as provide oils needed more in this weather for skin and internal body systems," says dermatologist Dr Deepali Bharadwaj.

In this deadly winter chill, never sleep without cleansing your face even after a 2 am. As we sleep to vitalize our mind, skin automatically rejuvenates and the last thing you put on your face is like food. So a good and potent night cream according to the individual skin care demand is the true need of hour at that time.

It's winter and that doesn't mean the water requirement of body is any lesser than summer. Yes we feel less thirsty but due to dehydration, many of us have cracked skin and dry patches. "Avoid them by having water along your soups and hot drinks," says Dr Bharadwaj. Never forget pure water is the healthiest drink known to us.

Use a sunscreen with SPF on the face and avoid splashing it on the legs, neck and other protected areas so that vitamin D can be absorbed. This SPF will help you against wrinkles, pigmentation, skin cancer.

Use almond oil for dry to normal skin, else baby oil for oily skin on the face as a moisturizer. Try to apply on a slightly damp face and remove with tissue for oily skin after less than an hour. For normal or dry skin, almond oil can be left on longer, say experts.

The Lady Beard goes viral

Thought that women and facial fuzz were opposite ends of a pole? Think again! In a fad that's taking the Internet by storm, women are sporting a 'beard'.

Say hello to the 'Lady Beard'! We recently had the man bun where men tied their hair into a neat bun and now it seems women are giving it back with this rough look. Call it bizarre if you like, but the hairy fad actually has a purpose...

How it got triggered
This trend came about after Decembeard — a charity that aids bowel cancer where men have been spreading awareness with their lumberjacks, French forks and various other beard grooming styles. The Lady Beard became an overnight sensation after women, too, got into a similar groove and started uploading their 'beard' posts online. It soon caught on since many thought it was fun and for a good cause.

What it really is
No, it's not literally growing a beard, but tweaking braided hair around the chin to resemble a real one. And it's not just about creating simple knots on the tresses, women are also getting creative with different braiding styles and accessories for the new fad.

Winter care for your hair

Winter does not only mean dry skin, it also brings with it a lot of hair problems like dandruff, frizz, dryness and more.

Here are some home remedies to tackle these problems like a pro.

Dandruff: Try the hot oil therapy for dandruff by the simple use of pure coconut oil. Warm the coconut oil a bit and massage it well all over the scalp and the hair. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze the water and wrap it around your hair like a turban. Keep it on for five minutes after which remove the towel but leave the oil overnight. Wash your hair off the next day.

Dry hair: Mix one egg with a cup of milk and mix well. Apply the mixture on your scalp and rinse it off thoroughly with water after five minutes. Repeat this twice a week and you will get soft and well-nourished hair.

Frizzy hair: Take In a spray bottle, and mix some creamy hair conditioner with water. Spray the mixture on your hair and comb so that the mixture spreads evenly through the hair.

Hair texture and colour: Mix one teaspoon castor oil and one tablespoon coconut oil and heat the mixture till lukewarm. Apply it on the scalp and hair and leave it overnight. Wash off the next day.

Split ends: Mix pure almond oil and one teaspoon of glycerine in quantities as required and apply the mixture on hair, especially the ends. Wash it off as usual after half an hour.

5 ways to rejuvenate your skin this winter

Glycerine and rosewater
This is by far the most effective way to keep your skin from drying and scaling this winter. Take some glycerine and mix it with rose water. Simply dab it on to your skin after a shower and you will not need any moisturiser. Glycerine works as a natural moisturiser and rosewater helps in keeping the skin fresh and supple.

Oil massage
Skin has a general tendency of drying in the winter, oil is something helps it restore its texture this season. Make sure you go for massages, every once a week — especially hot oil massages. The massage will help the oil to soak into your skin and make sure it stays moisturised throughout the season. In fact, it also helps in keeping you bones strong during winter.

Cleanse with milk
Milk is a natural cleanser which not only cleanses dust without removing natural moisturiser of the skin, it also moisturises and hydrates the skin. Take a cup of chilled milk, soak a cotton ball in it and apply milk on your skin.

Drink lots of water
This is the easiest thing to do for your skin. Keeping your skin hydrated is the simplest way to take care of it this season. Make sure you drink lots of water, this will help you get rid of the toxins and other impurities that keep settling on your skin.

‘Liberation War merged into our cognition’

Popular actor and model Ferdous starrer much-anticipated film ‘Shovoner Swadhinata’ will hit the silver screen across the country tomorrow (Dec 11).

It is the directorial debut film by Manik Manobik based on a novel by Rashid Haider. In an interview with Samakal, Ferdous talks about the movie and so on.

How ‘Shovoner Swadhinata’ is difference than other films based on Muktijoddha you have acted earlier?

Liberation War is the most important chapter in the history of Bangladesh.  It cannot be denied, neither can be changed the history. So, the fact gets more priority in the war based stories, literatures, dramas, films etc.  ‘Shovoner Swadhinata’ describes the fact through a story. My two films “Dhrubotara’ and ‘Guerrilla’ based on the Muktijoddha have a difference of the new one that Nipun and Rudra Raiyan are my co-artists here.

What is the reason to be interested in acting in the same role more than once?

I was never interested in acting in the same role again and again. But I did not show any unwillingness in acting in the same role again and again in the films based on Muktijoddha. The cause is that the country’s Liberation War in 1971 merged into our cognition. For this, I am acting in the same role of my next film ‘Postmaster 71’ produced by myself.

What about ‘Kaler Putul’?

Shooting of the film has nearly been completed. It is the directorial debut film by Aka Reza. I have acted the character of a travel thirsty photographer in the thriller movie.

Heard that you are acting in Delwar Jahan Jhantu’s film?

Yeah. I am acting Delwar Jahan Jhantu’s latest film ‘52 Theke 71’. It is a fortune for me that I am working with the acclaimed director. In this film, I will be seen in a character of a Muktijoddha too.

‘Spectre’ becomes 2nd highest grossing James Bond movie

The $750 million global total rung up so far by the thriller starring Daniel Craig as the suave super spy trails only the $1.1 billion worldwide haul of “Skyfall,” the previous 007 film that was released in 2012 and is the only one to hit that milestone.

The latest Daniel Craig thriller fails to match the UK and US numbers of “Skyfall,” which will remain the only 007 film to top $1 billion globally.

“Spectre” will wind up as its second-highest grossing entry in the James Bond movie franchise, TheWrap.

A final total somewhere between $850 million and $870 million is likely, according to several analysts, with $900 million achievable in the most favorable scenario.

That’s still impressive, since “Skyfall” had the benefit of a boost from the London Olympics — remember the Queen and OO7 parachuting out of the copter? — and a hit theme song from Adele going for it.
